Initial Reflections

I have been looking forward to furthering my thinking and becoming a better
teacher for my students since I first got accepted to this program. Then the
first week arrived. I tried out zoom ahead of time, made sure I was set up for
our first meeting and the inevitable happened. My computer crashed. A bit
dramatic, I know, but it certainly felt dramatic. Luckily, my community has
great (I wanted to say phenomenal but that feels too dramatic) computer IT
people that saved my bacon! I took my computer in and within a day I was back
at it! I even had a credit with them that I had forgotten about! It was like
finding money in my pocket. A sure sign that I am going in a good direction.

So, what next. Try to get the multitude of different apps under control. Start
getting my blog posts done. Get the rocket to slow down just a bit so that I
can jump on instead of trying to catch up with it. All things are possible is
going to be my motto this term!

The readings so far have been interesting and the break out room conversations have
given me a lot of ideas and there is a lot to learn.  Including
:

Zotero – a program to organize, annotate and cite research.  Thank goodness for video lessons!

The Library – had a great presentation on searching for articles.  Thanks Justin!

Word Press – how do you get rid of that initial picture?

Things I need to remember:

Firstly, it’s okay to not know everything when I am learning.  I’ll take my time to figure things out.

Secondly, I won’t hesitate to ask for help when I need it.  There are a lot of resources out there.

Thirdly, I need to be open to trying new things and stepping outside my comfort zone.  It can lead to personal growth.

Lastly, embrace change because it helps you become who you are meant to be

I am looking forward to showing myself that practice makes better.  It is what I tell my students as they struggle.  Of course, I still haven’t figured out how to change that darn picture!

Time to jump in!
